Krista Coey Bernau is a highly accomplished leader with over 15 years of progressive management experience with national and local non-profit organizations. The promotion of community health and wellness; through the utilization of evidence-based practices, partnership, advocacy, education and positive change are the core principles of her professional identity.

She is the executive director of ABLE Inc which is a 501c3 organization that provides residential care to people with developmental disabilities in Southeast Minnesota. ABLE employs approximately 130 full and part-time staff and serves over 50 people.

During her time at ABLE Krista has led huge technology and infrastructure updates needed to make the 45-year-old organization relevant long into the future. She held multiple leadership roles to include Director of Social Services for a nonprofit organization in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Krista was part of the cross functional team responsible for bringing the multi-million dollar Reach Center to La Crosse County.

Krista served her country in the Wisconsin National Guard for 14 years including two combat tours to Iraq (2009/10), Afghanistan (2014) and a humanitarian mission building schools in El Salvador (2013). She has a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Viterbo University. Her undergraduate degree is in psychology and substance abuse counseling.
