NOTE: This is a 3-part session taking place on October 13, 20, and 27. For details on what each session will cover, please read below.

WordPress is the most widely used website development platform in the world, allowing for the design of powerful, custom websites that are easy to edit. This beginner-level class will walk through the fundamentals of creating a website in WordPress. We’ll explore how to set up WordPress, how to install and configure a theme, how to create pages and posts, and more. You’ll also learn key web design best practices to help make your website more effective. No previous experience with WordPress is required for the class.

Session 1: We’ll begin by providing an overview of the keys to developing an effective website. Setting goals for your website, identifying what content is needed, and determining how your site will be organized are important first steps. From there, we’ll explore how to set up a domain and hosting for your website. We’ll discuss the benefits and key features of WordPress and show you how to set up WordPress on your web host. Finally, we’ll review WordPress themes and how to install them.

Session 2: During session 2, you’ll learn how to configure key settings in WordPress and how to create your navigation menu. From there, we’ll discuss different page-building plugins available to help design great web pages. For this course, we’ll be using the free version of Elementor — one of the most popular and powerful WordPress page builders. You’ll learn how to install Elementor and gain an understanding of its key features and how to use them. With this knowledge in hand, we’ll create a sample website home page.

Session 3: During the final session of the course, we’ll develop other pages on our sample website. You’ll gain additional knowledge about using WordPress and the Elementor page builder, including how to set up contact forms, how to size and place images, how to embed videos, and more. We’ll also introduce other commonly-used WordPress plugins, which can be used to add features to your website. To wrap up the course, we’ll discuss how to launch your website and perform ongoing maintenance to keep it running smoothly.
